Canberra is Australia’s Capital City and lies in its own territory, ACT (Australian Capital Territory). The territory is total engulfed by New South Wales and as such is often included, as we have, with driving information and maps of NSW.

Its population is approximately 335,000 residents and is Australia’s largest inland City. It became the Capital in 1908 after stealing the title from Sydney and as a compromise to Melbourne’s claims. In 1913 an international contract was sought for the building of the city and Parliament House, which was completed in 1927 and officially opened.

The area has a relatively low unemployment rate and most of the permanent residents, in addition to the politicians, are defense force personnel. Home to the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), Canberra also has strong representation in many of the national codes, including the NRL Rugby league and the Super 14 Rugby Union.
