Overlooking Pioneer bay, Airlie Beach is the gateway to the Whitsunday’s. From Abel Point Marina, or over the hill at Shute Harbour, many of the water taxis and ferries that transport the many visitors to the outer islands, consistently arrive and depart through-out the day.
The foreshore is transformed each Saturday by the weekly markets. Locals offer a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables, arts, crafts and other collectable souvenirs from the area. This is the nearest ‘mainland’ for the thousands of Hospitality workers from the hotels and resort in the islands and it is often a favourite meeting place for their days off. The area is peppered with clubs, cafes, bars and restaurants.
