Coolum lies at the foot of Mt Coolum, in the Mount Coolum National Park. The Mount has been dated as perhaps 25-26 million years old and the surrounding 1km of National Park is truly unique for it diversity of plant life, over 700 plant types have been documented.
The mount can be climbed by following a 800m track from the car park and once at the summit, 360 degree views are afforded those who where fit enough to make the climb.
Perhaps the most famous landmark is the Hyatt Coolum resort. Each year it is home to the PGA Golf Tour and attracts golfers and visitors from all around the globe.
As the area has developed, several shops and restaurants have sprouted up along the main road although the Coolum Beach Life Savings Club is still a very popular location for a light meal or to catch up with friends for a quiet beer.
