A two and a half drive north of Melbourne will bring you to the City of Echuca, on the Murray River. In the 1800’s the port played a vital role in transporting goods to and from inland Australia by paddle steamer. As road and rail transport became more prevalent in the 1900’s, the reliance on the waterway became less and less, however the region has kept its historic charm as a working port.
Some of the sights to see in Echua include the Great Aussie Beer Shed, the National Holden Motor Museum, the Oz Maze and of course the Port itself.
With all its olden days charm you can still take a horse and carriage ride, catch a movie in the penny arcade, visit a few cellar doors or even cruise the river ‘old school’ style aboard one of the vintage boats.
