The Esperance Shire is an area that extends from Munglinup to Israelite Bay and north to the Daniell rail siding, including over 400km of coastline. The coast varies greatly from calm bays and scenic islands of the Recherche Archipelago , to the large cliffs that make up part of the Great Australian Bight.
Like many towns in this vast land, the settlement and foundation of the town was based around the chase for Gold and Esperance’s population fluctuated between good times and bad until the 1960’s, when it was discovered that its sandy plains had valuable agricultural value.
One of the best sights to see in the area is the contrast of the western beaches. With sand dunes that stand almost 60 metre’s high, created by strong winds and tides, giving way to the turquoise of the shallow waters and then the richest blue of the deeper channels, it truly is a picture worth taking.
With such a large area to cover we recommend you plan a little before you go and check out Esperance Visitor Centre.
